Hollywoodbets is a South African bookmaker that grew out of a horse racing card publisher founded in 1986. It now has over 80 branches across six provinces, a website, a mobile site and an app, and on the day we checked it listed 31 sports and markets with events, from horse racing and soccer to Lucky Numbers draws on lotteries around the world. New accounts get a R25 sign-up bonus and 50 free spins, and you can pay in cash at a branch and take winnings out as cash at an ATM through four banks, from R100 up to R3,000 a day. It is built for racing and Lucky Numbers punters, and for anyone who would rather use cash than a bank card.

Using the Hollywoodbets app and mobile site

Open the slots lobby on Wi-Fi if your data is tight.

The first screen has a purple header with the menu button, Change Password or Cell Number, Join and Log in, and a bar along the bottom holds Home, Promotions, Bet Slip, My Bets and Live Chat. Logged out, the main home content had not appeared, so the first screen we saw was the 18+ responsible gambling notice and the footer. On our first visit the soccer and racing pages showed only their headings. A second visit to the soccer page drew its tabs, coupons and leagues, but neither visit showed fixtures or prices logged out. The two casino lobbies drew in full, and from either one a game is a single tap away.

The Hollywoodbets app page says the app carries all the features of the mobile site, including cash out on soccer multiples, live in-play betting and 24/7 customer support.

A bookmaker that started with racecards

Hollywoodbets tells its own story on its About Us page. It began in 1986 as Winning Form, a small South African company that published and distributed horse racing cards. It opened its first betting branch in Durban in 2000, launched hollywoodbets.net in 2006, and added a mobile site in 2009.

The same page says Hollywoodbets now has over 80 branches across six provinces, and that you can also bet through USSD, the Phone-A-Bet call centre, the mobile site, the website and an app for feature phones. Selected branches have a restaurant and bar, and the page names its bunny chows as a reason to visit. Racing still sits close to the front: the home page has a Next Race quick link, and the help pages have their own Horse Racing Help section.

The business is run through a group of companies, one for each province: Hollywood Sportsbook KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, Western Cape, Eastern Cape, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and Free State, all under Hollywood Sportsbook Holdings. That spread is why several gambling boards are named on its site rather than one.

The Hollywoodbets footer carries the Durban July and The Sharks logos, the terms index has a Sharks 26/27 page, and Brentford FC sits in the sponsor logos, with Brentford FC jerseys among the Halakasha prizes.

The Hollywoodbets welcome offer

New accounts get two things: a R25 sign-up bonus and 50 free spins. Neither needs a deposit. The Hollywoodbets terms set out each one.

The R25 sign-up bonus

You must bet the full R25 at odds of 0.5 (5/10) or higher before you can withdraw it.
It has to be used within 24 hours of your account being activated, or it is lost.
You cannot use it on both sides of the same market. The terms name Lucky Numbers High and Low, To Bat First and To Kick-Off First as examples.
You can use it before your FICA is done, but you must be FICA approved before your first withdrawal.

Put together, that is R55 of free play for a new account: the R25 bonus plus R30 of spins. The R25 clears with a single bet of the full amount on a selection priced at 0.5 or more, placed within 24 hours of your account going live. Other Hollywoodbets promotions

The promotions page sorts its offers under All, Casino, Sports and HWB Exclusives. Refer a Friend gives you a free R50 betting voucher for every friend who joins successfully, a Stitch offer rewards deposits of R200 or more made through Stitch, and the Aviatrix Tournament shares a cash prize pool among crash game players. Selected customers also get a free-to-play Bonus Wheel during set promotional periods. The general terms say sport bonus funds are lost 30 days after a bonus period ends, and casino bonus funds cannot be withdrawn until they are fully unlocked.

Horse racing at Hollywoodbets

Racing is where Hollywoodbets comes from, and it covers both local and international meetings. The Next Race quick link on the home page jumps straight to the next off, and the Horse Racing Help section explains the Exacta, Quartet, Swinger and Trifecta.

Alongside win and place bets, the racing bet types include the Swinger, Exacta, Trifecta, Quartet, Jackpot, Pick 6 and Place Accumulator. The racing page carries a gallopTV player, and the general terms say winning horse racing bets are subject to provincial taxes and levies in every province.

Hollywoodbets also runs racing promotions. Irish Objection refunds your stake on a straight win bet when your horse finishes first but loses the race on an objection. The Spring into Action campaign for September 2026 shares R100,000 among 80 customers who bet R50 or more on horse racing, and its betting vouchers must be staked once at odds of 1.5 or more before they can be withdrawn. The sportsbook: soccer and other sports

On 26 September 2026 the Hollywoodbets sports list had 31 sports and markets with events, from soccer, rugby, cricket and tennis to golf, darts, snooker, MMA, NASCAR and cycling, plus Counter-Strike and eSoccer on the esports side. The soccer page has tabs for All, Live, Upcoming, Popular, Results, Bet Builder and Virtual Soccer, and the Live tab showed 228 soccer matches in play when we checked. Ready-made coupons group the fixtures under headings such as Today’s Games, The Big Five, English Leagues, Local Leagues and UEFA Nights, and the menu has a separate virtual sports lobby. The general terms list Golden Race and Kiron Interactive among the products the Mpumalanga regulator has approved.

Soccer markets go beyond the full-time result to half time, handicaps, the first 10 minutes and double chance. Cash Out works on selected multiple bets, for a range of pre-match football markets. If you would rather pay at a shop, Book-a-Bet lets you build a bet online and show its reference number at a Hollywoodbets branch, where the ticket is printed. The general terms cap winnings at R5 million per customer per day, or R30 million on the bets the terms list as exceptions.

Hollywoodbets’ How to Bet page sets out the steps for a soccer or sports bet: choose your match, pick your selection from the menu beside the BET button, tap BET, enter your stake on the bet slip and tap Submit. It asks you to check your bet slip before you tap Submit, because mistakes cannot be fixed afterwards.

Lucky Numbers

Lucky Numbers is Hollywoodbets’ name for betting on the results of lottery draws from around the world, and its app page says there are over 3,000 draws to choose from each week. Today’s Lucky Numbers draws have their own quick link on the home screen. You pick numbers, or a market such as Hi/Lo, which asks whether the draw lands high or low, and bet on the result of a real draw. On our phone test the Lucky Numbers address sent a logged-out visitor back to the home page.

The draws are random, so no pattern in the last result tells you anything about the next one, and a Lucky Numbers bet is best kept to the stake you would spend on a lottery ticket. The sign-up bonus terms also stop you from putting the R25 on both High and Low in the same draw.

Spina Zonke and the casino games

The casino side of Hollywoodbets is built around Spina Zonke, its own name for its slots section. On 26 September 2026 the Spina Zonke lobby listed 4,022 games with 48 studio filters, starting with Pragmatic Play, Playtech, Habanero, EGT, Red Tiger, No Limit City and Booming Games. On a phone it opens with those studio buttons, a promotion banner and Search Games, Top Games, All Games, New Games and Weekly Holly JP buttons, and the first game tiles were Strike Frenzy, Hollywoodbets SugarTime, Pirots 2, Pirots 3, Sahara Riches Cash Collect and Sweet Bonanza, several marked Exclusive. A slot is one tap from the lobby, and Search Games finds a title by name. Local-themed slots include Shisanyama, Mzansi Safari and Babalas, next to Hollywoodbets’ own Hot Hot Hollywoodbets.

The crash games lobby listed 57 games from 21 studios, including Aviator and JetX, and the Hollywoodbets app page says Aviator can pay up to R10 million a flight. The menu also has lobbies for bingo, Slingo and scratch cards.

Hollywoodbets runs weekly slot promotions too, such as the Pragmatic Play Prize Drops and the Habanero Jackpot Race, each tied to a provider and a set time of day. In September 2026 the Prize Drops counted bets of R2 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays between 12:30 and 22:30, and the Jackpot Race counted bets of R2 or more on selected Habanero games from 8.30pm to 10.30pm on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Live casino at Hollywoodbets

The live lobby, called Live Tables and Game Shows, carries tables from Evolution, Pragmatic Live, Playtech Live, Ezugi, TVBet, Light & Wonder, EvenBet Poker and Amusnet, with categories that include Roulette, Blackjack, Game Shows, Baccarat & Sic Bo and Poker. On a phone it opens with studio buttons, an Evolution banner for Hollywoodbets Exclusive Live Casino Games, and rows of tables such as Gates of Olympus Roulette, Lightning Roulette, Hollywoodbets Live Roulette, First Person Blackjack and Infinite Blackjack, so a live table is one tap from the lobby. Betgames has its own button there too. The Hollywoodbets app page names game shows such as Crazy Time and Megaball, and its apps page counts hundreds of live-dealer tables.

You can also pay cash at a Hollywoodbets branch. If a deposit does not show, Hollywoodbets asks you to contact support with the amount, the bank you paid into and the reference you used, which should be your Hollywoodbets account number.

The general terms leave the minimum and maximum deposit to each payment provider. Instant EFT starts at R1, and crypto deposits start at R100 a transaction but only once your account is fully FICA verified. Whatever you deposit has to be staked in full before a withdrawal is processed, which the terms tie to anti-money laundering rules, and the same applies to vouchers. The terms also allow Hollywoodbets to pass on a transaction fee on deposits or withdrawals where it can show the cost. Every amount on the account is in rand: crypto deposits are accepted only from Luno, VALR and Binance Pay wallets and are converted to their rand value, so no cryptocurrency reaches Hollywoodbets.

Withdrawals and the limits to know about

When you register, Hollywoodbets asks for your banking details, and those are the details it uses to pay an EFT withdrawal. For cash, you can take money out through four services that send a PIN to your cell phone, which you then use at an ATM or a till:

Standard Bank Instant Money: you get an SMS with a voucher number, then a second SMS with the PIN, usually about five minutes apart
FNB eWallet: you get an SMS from FNB and dial a code for the PIN, which needs some airtime on your phone
Absa CashSend: you get a 10-digit reference number by SMS and use it with the Hollywoodbets access code given in the terms
Nedbank Send-iMali and MobiMoney: you get a PIN by SMS and use it with your cell number

The cash options come with limits that matter if you win. The smallest cash withdrawal is R100, although the general terms set R200 for Nedbank Send-iMali. The most you can take out through these cash services is R3,000 a day and R25,000 a month, counted across all of them together, so reaching the monthly cap takes at least 9 days of cash withdrawals. Eezi Cash Vouchers are another cash route, from R50 to R2,500 a withdrawal and up to R25,000 a month. A bigger win will need to go by EFT, which starts at R50, and Hollywoodbets’ pages give no set time for an EFT payout.

Hollywoodbets’ Cash Send terms say these withdrawals are processed within 24 hours, subject to banking hours, while the general terms give 72 hours and add that verification checks can delay a payout. The banks have their own cut-off times too. Absa CashSend requests are not processed between 20:00 and 06:00 from Monday to Saturday, or from 17:00 on Sunday. Nedbank’s service stops between 18:30 and 06:00 on weekdays and from 13:30 on Saturday until 06:00 on Monday. Nedbank can also reverse a voucher that has not been collected within 48 hours, in which case the money goes back into your Hollywoodbets account.

Withdrawals only ever go to the account holder, to the cell number on the account. Changing that number before a withdrawal triggers extra checks. If you bet at a branch, collect a winning ticket within 90 days of the event, because the general terms let Hollywoodbets keep it after that, and cash paid out at a branch depends on the cash the branch has.

How to download the Hollywoodbets app

Android APK

Hollywoodbets offers its Android app as an APK that you download from Hollywoodbets itself. When we searched Google Play from South Africa, only the Hollywoodbets Play and Hollywoodbets Live Scores apps from Rivals Publishing came up, so get the APK from the Hollywoodbets apps page and allow the install when your phone asks.

iPhone

On an iPhone, the betting app is on the App Store under the name Hollywoodbets Sport & Casino, sold by Hollywood Sportsbook Gauteng (Pty) Ltd. The listing puts it at about 41 MB, needs iOS 15.1 or later, is rated 17+ and had 9,763 ratings with a high average score when we checked.

Huawei

Huawei phones get the app from the Huawei AppGallery, according to the Hollywoodbets apps page. The same page lists separate apps, including Live Scores, Pitchside for football news, Stats, the Punters’ Challenge fantasy game and Hollywoodbets Play, whose free sports games pay no real money.

Signing up and FICA

To join, tap Join, choose New Account and fill in your details with a valid email address. Hollywoodbets checks the ID number you enter with its verification tool at the time. The next page asks for your banking details, which are the details an EFT withdrawal is paid into, and then you set a Maximum Daily Deposit Limit, which the How to Register page says is an indication of what you plan to spend rather than a hard limit. Agree to the terms and conditions, and then hand in your FICA documents, which the law requires before your registration is complete.

For FICA, the help page asks for a copy of your ID, and the sign-up bonus terms accept a valid South African ID or a valid foreign passport. A driver’s licence is only accepted as a supporting document if you have a temporary ID or your ID is damaged. If you have a Smart ID card, send a photo of both sides. The general terms also allow Hollywoodbets to ask for proof of address and proof of your bank account, with statements no older than three months.

You can hand the copy in at any Hollywoodbets branch, email it to HWHelpline@hollywoodbets.net or fax it to 086 673 2627. The photo must be clear, in colour, with the details and your picture readable. Hollywoodbets can still ask for more documents before a withdrawal if it needs to.

Licence and safety

The Hollywoodbets footer says hollywoodbets.net and hollywoodbets.mobi are licensed by the Gauteng Gambling Board, the Limpopo Gambling Board and the Mpumalanga Economic Regulator, with specific products licensed by the KwaZulu-Natal Gaming and Betting Board and the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board. It prints the licence numbers too: Western Cape 10000107-029, issued on 1 November 2023; Gauteng BRA-024, issued on 17 March 2009; Mpumalanga 9-2-1-00051, issued on 26 October 2020; Limpopo Book 007-LGB, issued on 1 April 2015; and KwaZulu-Natal BOM0092, issued in June 1999. The Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board lists Hollywood Sportsbook Western Cape (Pty) Ltd among its licensed bookmakers.

The general terms name seven provincial authorities in all, adding the Eastern Cape Gambling Board and the Free State Gambling, Liquor and Tourism Authority, whose licence covers the Hollywoodbets shop in the Free State. New accounts are placed with the board for the province you live in where that is practical. Only people aged 18 or over may bet, and the footer says the platform is powered by BET Software.

Responsible gambling tools at Hollywoodbets

Hollywoodbets offers a cooling-off period that can run for a couple of days, several weeks or several years. If you pick less than 30 days it cannot be lifted early, and if you pick longer, including the Permanent option, it can be lifted once 30 days have passed; to cool off permanently with no way back, ask the contact centre. To self-exclude through the gambling boards, fill in the form on the Hollywoodbets Responsible Gambling page and email it to info@ngb.org.za, which closes your Hollywoodbets account and returns the money in it. Customer views depend on where you look. The iPhone app had 9,763 App Store ratings with a high average score when we checked. On Hellopeter, the South African review site, most reviews from the past year give one star, and the common complaints are about withdrawals, accounts held for checks after a win, being logged out in the middle of a game and support replies that promise a four-hour turnaround. Hellopeter’s own summary credits named Hollywoodbets escalation staff with sorting out long-running FICA and account problems, and Hollywoodbets replies to most negative reviews there. The general terms let Hollywoodbets check your identity at any time and particularly when you withdraw, so have your FICA approved and your banking details right before you ask for a large payout.

How Hollywoodbets compares with other bookmakers
